Save on your utilities this summer with these tips.
When the temperature goes up, the thermostat turns down. Constant air conditioning means you’re looking at an expensive bill. However, it doesn’t have to be that way. There are steps you can take to save energy and money. Check out these ways that you can keep your utility bills low.
Open the Windows.
Depending on how cool it gets at night, turn off the air conditioning and open the windows. A nice breeze is all you need to stay cool. That way, you can give your A/C and wallet a break and save on your energy consumption. During the day close the blinds to reduce the hot sun from streaming in to stay a little cooler.
Inspect Your Insulation.
Every home has insulation to help control the temperature in your home. The thicker and newer the insulation, the more efficient it is at keeping the cool air in and the hot air out. While the insulation in your walls is important, it’s perhaps most important to inspect the insulation in your attic. Check to see that your insulation isn’t old, frayed, or damaged.
Minimize Your Appliance and Lighting Usage.
The appliances that you use can increase the temperatures in your home. On hot days, be mindful of which ones you use. Using the oven, stove, or microwave can increase the temperature of your home. Minimize their use so that you’re better able to keep cool and save energy.
Upgrade Your Thermostat.
A programmable thermostat can help to automatically adjust the temperature. You can even set it on a timer so that the thermostat turns off when you’re not home. Plus, the newer the cooling system, the more efficient it is at using energy to cool off your home.
